Accessibility Statement

Last updated: January 2025

Our Commitment

The Kitchen Rescue is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards to achieve these goals.

Conformance Status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.

The Kitchen Rescue website aims to conform to WCAG 2.2 Level AA standards. This means our content should be accessible to a wider range of people with disabilities, including accommodations for blindness and low vision, deafness and hearing loss, limited movement, speech disabilities, photosensitivity, and combinations of these, and some accommodation for learning disabilities and cognitive limitations.

Accessibility Features

We have implemented the following accessibility features on our website:

  • Skip to content link: Allows keyboard users to skip navigation and go directly to the main content
  • Keyboard navigation: All interactive elements can be accessed using only a keyboard
  • Visible focus indicators: Clear focus states for all interactive elements to help keyboard users see where they are on the page
  • Semantic HTML: Proper use of HTML5 semantic elements and ARIA attributes where appropriate
  • Alt text: Images include descriptive alternative text
  • Form labels: All form fields have associated labels for screen reader users
  • Error messages: Form validation errors are announced to screen readers using ARIA live regions
  • Colour contrast: Text meets WCAG AA standards for colour contrast ratios
  • Responsive design: Website is accessible on various devices and screen sizes

Known Issues

We are aware that some parts of our website may not be fully accessible. We are working to address these issues:

  • Some third-party content (such as embedded videos or maps) may not be fully accessible
  • Some PDF documents may not be fully accessible to screen readers
  • Some interactive elements may require further testing with assistive technologies

We are committed to addressing these issues and improving accessibility across our website.
